About this board game
Command Decision: Test of Battle is a WWII battalion-level miniatures game for 2 players, with a listed play time of 240 minutes. Each miniature stand represents a platoon, while every turn covers 30 minutes of battlefield time.
This edition introduces several important changes from earlier versions. Spotting is deterministic, movement is resolved sequentially rather than simultaneously, and stands are eliminated with a single hit instead of requiring multiple hits. High-explosive fire always suppresses its target.
Most models remain on the table throughout play, including phantom models that act as dummies. The main exception is the command reserve: one or two command reserve stands may be added during the game.
- WWII battalion-level rules using miniatures
- 30-minute turns and platoon-representing stands
- Deterministic spotting and sequential movement
- Phantom models and command reserve stands
- One-hit stand elimination and automatically suppressing HE fire
The game includes TO&Es and data charts for four nations: the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Russia. These materials provide the national information used with the system.
Command Decision: Test of Battle contains 12 historical scenarios, along with a random campaign scenario generator named “Test of Battle.” Random Event cards add another included element to the game’s scenario and campaign play.
The system is expanded by Command Decision: Test of Battle – Benghazi Handicap and Command Decision: Test of Battle – Stars and Stripes Forever.
