About this board game
British Tank Ace: 1940-1945 is a solitaire tactical game for 1–4 players, featuring missions that can take 10–15 minutes and a full career lasting around 4–5 hours. You command an individual British tank during World War II across North Africa, Italy, and the European Theaters of Operation.
Begin with a tank and commander, then roll for a mission based on the tactical situation. You may be ordered to attack, defend, or conduct a movement-to-contact operation. Enemy forces and events are randomly generated, ensuring that every career develops differently.
Combat is swift and potentially deadly. You must control your crew and consider hull-down status, hull and turret orientation, and when it is wise to button up. Artillery, mortar fire, terrain, and weather can all affect your operations as you fight to survive.
- Gain experience and prestige by surviving missions.
- Purchase skills and request improved tank models when enough prestige is available.
- Earn awards and promotions, with promotion enabling access to artillery and mortar support.
- Continue in your starting tank until it is knocked out if an upgrade is not affordable.
Each completed mission can advance your commander’s story through awards, experience, promotions, and tank upgrades. The ultimate goal is to survive the war and help defeat Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany.
Designed primarily for solitaire play, British Tank Ace also includes options for cooperative and competitive multiplayer sessions. With an abstract map scale, a semi-abstract time scale, and units representing individual tanks, crewmen, enemy vehicles, anti-tank guns, and ammunition, it presents a focused tank-command experience in a streamlined format.
