About this board game
Speakeasy is a two-player board game for a 30-minute contest of memory, bluffing, and anticipation, set during the 1920s era of Prohibition and its famous speakeasies.
Each player secretly arranges a clan of 25 gangster pieces on the board, keeping their values visible only to themselves. Your goal is to find your opponent’s speakeasy before they discover yours, while remembering the information revealed through movement and encounters.
Players take turns moving their pieces along the city’s streets and alleys. Pieces can even enter buildings that serve as stash locations, creating opportunities to conceal movement and plan your next challenge.
- Secretly placed pieces with values hidden from your opponent
- Movement through streets, alleys, and stash buildings
- Encounters resolved by comparing piece values
- Special pieces with faster movement or powerful final effects
When two pieces meet, the piece with the highest value scares away the opponent and removes it from the city. Special pieces add further uncertainty: some move faster than ordinary pieces, while others scare away every opponent before disappearing themselves.
Inspired by Lu Zhan Jun Qi, a Chinese game with a long history, Speakeasy combines deduction with tactical positioning. Every move can reveal useful information, but it may also expose your own intentions. Anticipate your rival’s plans, use the hidden values to your advantage, and search carefully for the opposing speakeasy.
