About this board game

Reconquista is a strategy board game for 3–4 players, with a play time of 140 minutes, set during the wars between Muslims and Christians in 11th-century Spain. Each player leads one of four competing kingdoms: Castilla y León, Aragón, Sevilla, or Zaragoza.

Across 10 rounds, players collect income from their territories and invest it in troops and castles. Each kingdom controls two armies, commanded by the King and his main Vassal. Move across the Iberian Peninsula to conquer territories, enter battles, and besiege enemy castles.

Every round follows seven phases that shape the struggle for control:

  • Auction: Offer coins to change the round order.
  • Reconquista: Draw and read a Reconquista card.
  • Income: Collect income from controlled territories.
  • Management: Recruit troops, build castles, pay ransoms, or pay a leader’s vassalage.
  • Moves: Move armies across the board.
  • Battles and Sieges: Resolve conflicts using troops and Leader cards.
  • Maintenance: Deploy the Real Army onto the board.

Round order matters throughout the game, while the Initial Player determines the order in which battles and sieges are resolved. Reconquista cards also introduce historical events that can contribute to a player’s success.

Victory Points are earned by winning battles, successfully besieging castles, and resolving historical events. A player wins when their Control marker reaches position 6 in the VP box and they then win a battle or siege, or cause a retreat.
