About this board game
Times is a card game for 2–5 players that takes about 45 minutes, featuring guesses, challenges, and time frames built around historical events.
Every card represents a time frame. For each event, every player plays one card to guess when the event happened. The player whose card shows the widest time frame must then set a time frame, based on that card, in which they believe the event occurred.
The player with the second-widest time frame has an important choice: they may challenge the previous player’s time frame or narrow it according to their own played card. The remaining players then either guess by setting or narrowing a time frame, or challenge another player’s guess.
- Play a card to propose a time frame for the event.
- Challenge a previous time frame or narrow it with your own card.
- Reveal when the event actually happened.
- Discard qualifying played cards and score the round.
Once every player has guessed or challenged, the event’s actual point in time is announced. Players whose time frames contain that point get rid of their played card. Players who challenged another player’s guess also discard their played card, rewarding both accurate timing and well-judged challenges.
The first player to get rid of five cards wins the round and receives 2 victory points. The player with the most cards remaining receives no points, while all other players receive 1 point. In Times, choosing the right range is only part of the strategy: deciding when to challenge can be just as valuable.
