About this board game
Blue & Gray Deluxe Edition is a collection of eight American Civil War battle games for 1–2 players, with an approximate playing time of 120 minutes. It brings together the original games from SPI’s Blue & Gray I and II Quadrigames in one deluxe edition.
The battles represented are among the conflict’s most important engagements, spanning farmland, key defensive positions, and untracked wilderness. Players can refight Shiloh, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Chickamauga, Chattanooga, and The Battle of the Wilderness, with historical setups and exclusive rules tailored to each game.
- A shared rules system for all eight battles, based on the Borodino/Napoleon at Waterloo system
- Terrain-focused play featuring rolling farmland and wilderness
- Rules for night turns and struggles over critical terrain
- Game-specific rules, player notes, and design notes from the original SPI editions
The American Civil War was fought with brutally effective Napoleonic tactics alongside newer, more lethal weaponry. In this series, the battlefield itself is central: control can shift repeatedly as opposing forces contest the terrain that shapes each engagement.
This edition adds new artwork, double-sided mounted game boards, enlarged counters, player aid cards, and numerous optional rules drawn from other editions. It also includes new variant counters and markers for variants originally published in Moves and Strategy & Tactics magazines.
With its combination of historical scenarios, modular battles, and classic SPI design, Blue & Gray Deluxe Edition offers a substantial way to revisit eight defining contests from the war that decided the fate of a nation divided against itself.
