About this board game
Slash: Romance without boundaries is a card-based party game for 3–9 players, with a play time of about 45 minutes. Players compete to create the best romantic fan-fiction pairing using characters from pop culture, history, and literature.
Each player begins with a hand of character cards. One player takes the role of the matchmaker, selects a character from their hand, and places it face up on the table. The other players then choose a possible “ship” for that character by playing a card from their own hands.
The pairings are not the whole story. To make their romantic connection more compelling, players can narrate part of the relationship they are imagining. The matchmaker may request a particular scene, such as the characters’ first date, wedding day, or the moment they realized they belonged together.
- Choose a character to pair with the matchmaker’s selection.
- Narrate a portion of the relationship when prompted or when it strengthens your case.
- Try to win the matchmaker’s choice—or persuade the table to overrule it.
If the matchmaker does not select your pairing, you still have another chance. You can narrate the tale of this destined connection to win the favor of the table and overrule the matchmaker. This gives every proposed romance an opportunity to become the round’s winning story.
Play continues until one player has accumulated 20 points worth of characters. With its mix of character cards, creative storytelling, and playful debate, Slash: Romance without boundaries turns familiar figures into unexpected romantic pairings.
