About this board game
Forgenesis is a two-player strategy game that plays in about 15 minutes, challenging opponents to maneuver creatures across a 4×4 board and reach the other player’s corner.
Each player begins with six creature tokens, then removes the same two types from play. With the board oriented so their own color points toward them, players take turns summoning and activating creatures from their reserves.
On a turn, you may activate any number of your active creatures. An activated creature can move one space orthogonally toward the opponent’s corner or use its unique ability, then flips to its resting side. These abilities create tactical opportunities for movement and disruption:
- The frog jumps an orthogonally adjacent token.
- The firefly pulls a creature in the same orthogonal line into a space adjacent to it.
- The beetle pushes an orthogonally adjacent token one space.
After activating creatures, you may summon one creature from your reserve onto an empty summoning space of your color. Alternatively, you can spend your entire turn flipping all of your resting animals back to their active side, preparing them for future actions.
Every move matters because a token that leaves the board is permanently removed from play. Win by moving one of your creatures onto the opponent’s corner. However, if you have no resting creatures and cannot activate one, you lose instead.
With its compact board, asymmetric creature abilities, and sharp win-or-lose conditions, Forgenesis offers a focused contest of positioning and timing. Decide when to advance, when to use an ability, and when to refresh your forces before your opponent finds a path to your base.
