About this board game

Roma is a two-player card-and-dice strategy game played in about 45 minutes, first released in 2005. Rome is in a state of emergency, with the Senate, the Guard, and the people divided by fierce arguments.

Players place cards at numbered dice stations, using positions 1 through 6. Each turn, dice rolls determine which stations can be activated, allowing players to use the cards they have placed there. This creates a tactical contest in which every roll can shape the next opportunity.

Card effects guide the action by manipulating cards in play, providing money, or granting victory points. Players may use influential figures such as the Consul and the Tribune to pull the strings behind the scenes, or rely on powerful cards including the Tower and the Praetorian Guard to protect their power and victory points.

  • For exactly 2 players
  • Approximately 45 minutes of play
  • Card placement at dice stations numbered 1–6
  • Dice-driven card activation and tactical effects
  • A fixed supply of victory points in every game

Victory points are limited: once all the points in play have been collected, the player with the most wins. Success depends on using connections effectively and playing cards cleverly, whether through protection, manipulation, or carefully timed actions.

Roma can also be combined with its sequel, Arena: Roma II, offering varying play options for those who want to extend the experience. With its distinctive blend of card play and dice activation, Roma turns the struggle for influence in Rome into a focused tactical duel.
