About this board game
Butterfly Garden is a tile-laying game for 2–4 players that takes about 30 minutes, with players building shared paths to guide butterflies from fountains to their flowerbeds.
Place the central fountain, six fountain tiles around the board’s edge, and the colorful butterfly figures. Each player places tokens on designated flowerbeds, establishing which destinations they can claim. On every turn, a player adds a path tile to any open space, while avoiding the single restriction that a route cannot connect one flowerbed directly to another.
Every path tile includes three route segments connecting a pair of edges. Players always have two tiles available, and whenever a newly placed tile touches a butterfly, that butterfly flies as far as the path allows. This visible movement makes it clear how future tiles can extend a route, without requiring players to mentally trace an incomplete path.
- Shared routes: No player owns an individual path, so everyone can take advantage of the routes already on the board.
- Color-based scoring: Purple butterflies are worth 3 points, pink butterflies 2 points, and blue butterflies 1 point.
- Risky connections: If one butterfly would fly into another, both are removed from the game.
When a butterfly reaches a flowerbed owned by one player, that player keeps it. If two players own the flowerbed, both collect a butterfly of that color, with any extra figure taken from the reserve. At the central fountain, pink butterflies move first, while the purple butterfly moves only with the sixth connection.
Once all butterflies have been claimed, the game ends. In Butterfly Garden, careful tile placement and an eye for existing routes help determine who finishes with the highest score.
