About this board game

Duplik is a fast-paced family and party game for 3–10 players, with an approximate play time of 45 minutes. It challenges players to describe, draw, and evaluate wonderfully wacky images.

In each round, one player becomes the Art Director. This player describes a unique and utterly bizarre image, while everyone else takes the role of an Artist and attempts to draw the image using only the description they hear.

The game turns communication and interpretation into an entertaining challenge. The Art Director must convey the image clearly, while the Artists must decide how to translate those words into drawings without seeing the original image during the description.

• One player describes a strange image as the Art Director.
• The other players draw what they believe the description represents.
• Once time is up, the Artists trade drawings.
• Ten hidden criteria for the image are revealed.
• Each Artist judges whether the drawing meets the criteria and awards points accordingly.

Because the criteria are hidden until the drawings are complete, Duplik rewards attentive listening and makes every interpretation worth examining. The judging phase gives players a chance to compare each drawing with the revealed requirements and decide whether it qualifies for points.

First published as Portrayal and then Identik, Duplik offers a lively drawing-and-description experience suited to family gatherings and larger party groups. Its unusual images and simple round structure make every turn a fresh test of communication and visual interpretation.
