About this board game
Sails of Glory is a naval combat game for 2–4 players, with games lasting about 45 minutes. It recreates battles at sea during the Age of Sails, from 1650 to 1815, using miniatures, cards, and board game mechanisms.
Players secretly choose maneuver cards before revealing them at the same moment. Each card shows arrows that are placed in front of a ship, which then moves to the arrowhead. Different options on the same card reflect the effects of the wind, while advanced rules also take the sails being used into account.
Once every ship has moved, the action turns to gunnery. Ships fire from their sides at targets within range, bringing movement choices and firing opportunities together in each round. The system is based on the game system used in Wings of Glory, formerly known as Wings of War, but it has been modified and expanded for sailing vessels.
- Secret maneuver selection: Choose movement cards privately, then reveal them simultaneously.
- Wind-based movement: Select from maneuver options according to the wind, with advanced rules for different sails.
- Side-mounted guns: After movement, fire at targets in range from the sides of the miniature.
- Ship miniatures: The game is supported by a range of painted and assembled 1/1000 miniatures.
The first series of Sails of Glory is set in the Napoleonic Age. Its broader system is intended to support naval combat across different historical periods, with the Age of Discovery, the Middle Ages, and ancient times identified as possible future settings.
