About this board game
Fighting Formations: Grossdeutschland Motorized Infantry Division is a two-player World War II formation game with an approximate playing time of 180 minutes, focused on the actions of an individual division.
The game operates at a scale of 75 meters per hex, with each turn representing about five minutes of real time. Units include squads, guns with their inherent crews, individual vehicles, and platoons, creating a detailed battlefield framework for commanding infantry and supporting forces.
Rather than using a strict Igo-Yougo sequence, Fighting Formations uses an impulse-style back-and-forth system. Orders have different costs in Initiative, and the player with the most Initiative at a given moment gets to take the next action on the map. This creates a fluid rhythm in which command choices directly affect who can act and when.
The game also includes card-based Assets, such as snipers, artillery, air support, and demolitions. These cards add specialized options to the battlefield, but the game is not card-driven; they support the main order and initiative engine rather than replacing it.
