About this expansion
Coup: Reformation is an expansion for Coup: City State that supports 2–10 players in approximately 15 minutes. It adds new cards, faction rules, and team-play options to create a fluid struggle for power.
Each player declares an allegiance as either Loyalist or Reformist. Players can target only members of the opposing faction, making every allegiance an important part of the game’s early tension, especially with four or more players.
Conversion keeps those alliances from becoming fixed. You may convert yourself or another player by paying a charitable donation to the Treasury, also called the Almshouse. This creates opportunities to seek protection, change your position, or take advantage of a shifting balance between the two groups.
- Supports games for 2–10 players
- Plays in about 15 minutes
- Adds rules for factions and team play
- Includes 15 additional character cards
- Introduces conversion through a donation to the Treasury
Although players begin divided into two factions, cooperation is temporary. Once one group has eliminated or converted the other, in-fighting begins within the remaining faction, and there is still only one winner—never a second place.
Coup: Reformation adds a new team dynamic to Coup, asking players to manage allegiance while bluffing, maneuvering, and looking for the right moment to change sides. Released in 2013, it expands the game for larger groups while preserving the tension of a single winner.
