About this board game
Ticket to Ride: Amsterdam is a route-building game for 2–4 players that brings the familiar series gameplay to a 17th-century Amsterdam map, with games lasting no more than 15 minutes.
Set during the Dutch Golden Age, Amsterdam is the center of global trade. Goods are arriving at docks, ship holds, warehouses, and canals, and players compete to profit from the city’s bustling market.
Each player begins with 16 carts, two transportation cards, and one or two trade contract tickets. On your turn, choose one main action:
- Draw two transportation cards from the deck or the five-card face-up display.
- Take one face-up wild card, which counts as any of the game’s six colors.
- Claim a route by discarding matching cards, using any set of cards for a gray route.
- Draw two trade contract tickets and keep at least one.
Routes with carts depicted on them, found mainly around the city’s perimeter, provide an additional opportunity. Whenever you complete one, you claim a merchandise bonus card, competing with other players for the end-game rewards.
The game enters its final round when a player has no more than two carts remaining. Every player, including the player who triggered the ending, takes one final turn. Players then score their claimed routes, completed trade contracts, and standing among the merchandise bonus card holders.
The player with the most merchandise cards earns 8 points, while the other players receive fewer points. Uncompleted contracts reduce your score, so careful route planning is essential. In Ticket to Ride: Amsterdam, the highest total wins.
