7 Wonders: Babel

About this expansion

7 Wonders: Babel is an expansion for 7 Wonders for 2–7 players, with games lasting about 45 minutes. It includes two modules that can be used separately or together, alongside other expansions.

The first module lets players draft quarter-circle tiles before the main card drafting begins. Each tile shows a law that affects everyone when played. Laws can dramatically change the game, such as making every single-resource card provide an infinite number of resources each turn or reducing the points awarded to winners of military conflicts.

During play, discarding a card offers a new choice: instead of taking three coins, a player may place a law tile in the next open space of a circular display. The law remains active until the end of the game or until another tile covers it. When a fifth tile is placed, it covers the first tile played. Players also score points at the end of the game based on the number of tiles they played.

The second module introduces an age-specific great project. At the start of each age, one of five project cards is revealed and receives tokens according to the number of players. The project taxes players who want to play cards of a specified color, with the required resources increasing in each age.

Whenever a player pays this tax, they take a token from the project card. At the end of the age, the result depends on whether all tokens were removed:

• If every token was taken, players receive the bonus shown on the card for each token they hold.
• If tokens remain, each player without a token is penalized.

With its interactive laws, evolving costs, and shared project objectives, 7 Wonders: Babel adds new consequences to familiar decisions without replacing the core game.
