About this expansion

Carcassonne: The Ferries is a small expansion for Carcassonne that adds ferry-based road connections for 2–6 players.

The expansion includes eight new land tiles, each showing three or four road segments leading to a lake in the center. Mix these tiles with the other tiles in the game, then place them according to the normal rules whenever one is drawn.

After placing a Ferries tile, the player decides whether to place a follower. If the follower is placed on a road as a robber, the player also chooses the relevant road segment. A ferry is then placed on the tile, connecting two of its road segments; any segments not connected by a ferry end at the lake.

  • Add eight lake-centered land tiles to the tile supply.
  • Place a ferry to connect two road segments.
  • Move ferries when roads are extended.
  • Score a road when it becomes closed at both ends.

Ferries can change as the road network grows. Whenever a player extends a road containing one or more ferries—whether with another Ferries tile or a regular road tile—they may move the first ferry closest to that tile in each direction of the road. The ferry can be repositioned to connect different road segments.

If this movement causes a road to close at both ends, that road scores immediately. With its compact set of tiles and distinctive lake connections, Carcassonne: The Ferries adds a focused new rule to the Carcassonne series.
