War of the Ring: Kings of Middle-earth

About this expansion

War of the Ring: Kings of Middle-earth is a 2023 expansion for War of the Ring for 2–4 players, with an approximate play time of 150 minutes.

Years before the War of the Ring, Sauron worked to bend the wills of the Free Peoples’ kings and rulers through subtle machinations. He sought to make them powerless puppets, or to weaken them before beginning his plans for conquest.

When war finally came, these rulers fought the Dark Lord valiantly. Yet the weaknesses Sauron had nurtured proved almost fatal for some of them. Kings of Middle-earth places their roles and vulnerabilities at the center of the story.

As the third expansion for War of the Ring, it greatly expands the part played by the rulers of the Free Peoples. New figures and rules bring several important leaders of Middle-earth to life:

• Theoden
• Denethor
• Dain
• Brand
• Thranduil

The expansion also introduces additional characters for the Shadow Armies: the Dark Chieftains. Together, these additions develop both the rulers defending the Free Peoples and the dark forces opposing them.

With its focus on kings, rulers, and the lasting effects of Sauron’s influence, War of the Ring: Kings of Middle-earth adds another layer to the story of the great conflict. It is designed for the War of the Ring experience and brings key figures and their weaknesses into sharper focus.
