About this board game
Fate of the Elder Gods is a 2017 competitive board game for 1–4 players, with games lasting about 90 minutes. Each player leads a cult seeking to summon an ancient evil and hasten the fall of mankind.
Rival cults race to awaken their Elder Gods, but investigators are constantly working to seal the gate with Elder Signs. If your cult gains too many Elder Signs, the game ends before your dark purpose is fulfilled.
Players manage a variable hand of spell cards, using each spell in one of two ways. Its Astral Symbol can guide the cult around Arkham on the distinctive Fate Clock board, or the symbols in a location’s Astral Column can help ready another spell.
- Ready and cast spells: Readied spells may be cast at any time, while spells in your cult’s Spell Reserve can help ready future cards.
- Visit six locations: Areas such as the Museum and the Ceremony provide powerful abilities, including gaining artifacts and enabling an Elder God’s Dark Gift.
- Build influence: Sending more cultists to a location may give your cult control and unlock even stronger abilities.
Every move carries a risk. Locations with heavy activity attract investigators, who may raid your cult’s lodge, place Elder Signs, and obstruct your progress toward summoning an Elder God.
In Fate of the Elder Gods, victory belongs to the cult that raises its Summon Track to 9 before the investigators save humanity. It may herald the end of the world, but eternal servitude to the Ancient Ones is a small price to pay.
