About this expansion

Dominion: Rising Sun is a Dominion expansion for 2–4 players, with an approximate play time of 30 minutes. It journeys to the islands to the east—or west, depending on where you are—and places you in the role of Emperor.

Your imperial title may come with less authority than expected. The samurai exclude you from their tea parties, ninjas tie your shoelaces together, and your ceremonial sword and armor are made of paper. Even the epic poem written about you is only 17 syllables long.

Despite these indignities, the view from your palace is not so bad. Rice has become the currency, breakfast is still available, and the question of what to eat remains pleasantly important. The setting gives this expansion a playful, self-deprecating tone while introducing new ways for the game to surprise you.

As the 16th expansion to Dominion, Rising Sun adds 300 cards and 25 new Kingdom card piles. Its featured elements include cards that can emerge unexpectedly from your deck and future developments that may reshape the game.

  • Shadow cards: cards that leap out from your deck.
  • Prophecies: events that will happen someday and change everything.
  • Debt and Events: returning elements that add to the expansion’s range of possibilities.

With its eastern-island setting, imperial comedy, and substantial collection of new cards, Dominion: Rising Sun brings a distinctive flavor to the Dominion system. Prepare your ceremonial armor, watch for what emerges from your deck, and consider what the future may hold.
