About this expansion
Civilization: Expansion Trade Cards Set is a 1982 expansion for 2–7 players with an approximately 360-minute play time. It adds seven new commodities to the trade card piles of the base game.
Designed as an addition to Civilization, this set focuses specifically on expanding the game’s commodity cards. It contains no calamities, making its contents distinct from an expansion that would add new disasters or other card types.
The set was offered by mail order directly from Avalon Hill to General subscribers, appearing in volume 19, number 4. It was also available through the company’s games and parts catalog, giving players an official way to obtain these additional trade cards.
The seven commodities introduced here were later carried over into the new trade deck used in Advanced Civilization. However, the number of cards for each of those commodities was changed in that later deck, so this set remains specifically associated with the original game’s trade card piles.
For players exploring the historical development of the Civilization series, Civilization: Expansion Trade Cards Set is a compact, focused addition. Its purpose is clearly defined: introduce seven commodities while leaving calamities out of the expansion.
