About this board game

Nidavellir is a 2020 board game for 2–5 players that takes about 45 minutes to play. The Dwarf Kingdom is threatened by the dragon Fafnir, and each player takes the role of a venerable Elvaland appointed by the King.

Your mission is to search through every tavern in the kingdom, hire the most skillful dwarves, recruit prestigious heroes, and build the best battalion you can. Every turn, you bid a coin on each tavern, then use the resulting order to choose a character and add that character to your army.

Recruitment requires careful attention to the different dwarf classes. Blacksmiths, hunters, warriors, explorers, and miners each have their own way of scoring, so assembling your army is more than simply taking the first available character. A meticulous recruitment can also help you attract a powerful hero to your ranks.

• Tavern bidding: Bid on each tavern and choose characters in descending order.
• Dwarf classes: Build your army with blacksmiths, hunters, warriors, explorers, and miners.
• Hero recruitment: Careful army development can unlock prestigious and powerful heroes.
• Coin-building: Increase the value of your gold coins through a smart coin-building system.

The value of your coins can grow throughout the game, giving you new possibilities in future bids. You may also get the best of the other Elvalands as you compete for the kingdom’s most valuable recruits.
