About this expansion
Keythedral: Expansion is an 8-tile expansion for Keythedral, designed for 3–5 players and a playing time of about 90 minutes. Released in 2004, it introduces new building tiles that change the resources workers must obtain.
The architect keeps changing the design of the new Keythedral, so the required resources have changed as well. These tiles are intended for players who are already familiar with the standard game, as they require more unusual combinations of resources.
The expansion includes six tiles that each require six resources of one color, along with three tiles featuring combinations of special resources:
- 6 Brown
- 6 Blue
- 6 Green
- 6 Red
- 6 Black
- 1 Gold + 1 Law
- 1 Purple + 2 Laws
- 2 White + 1 Law
Because these requirements differ from those in the standard game, the new tiles can produce unpredictable results toward the end of play. The official description notes that they are likely to distort the game’s ending, making them best suited to groups that already know the original tile set.
Use the eight tiles to vary the resource requirements in Keythedral and explore a less familiar mix of demands. As an expansion to Richard Breese’s fourth game in the Key series, it offers a focused way to alter the building requirements without replacing the standard game.
