About this expansion
Hannibal & Hamilcar: Sun of Macedon is a 2-player expansion for the Rome versus Carthage game, with approximately 240 minutes of play time. Released in 2018, it adds Philip V of Macedon as a new Carthaginian leader, along with two strategy cards focused on stealth movement.
Macedonia joined the Second Punic War as an ally of Carthage. Philip V built a fleet of 200 lemboi ships and was ready to sail to Italy, following in the footsteps of Pyrrhus, but Rome responded with a sea blockade and by inciting war in Greece. These actions bound Philip’s hands, while still creating the possibility of serious reinforcements for Hannibal in Italy.
This expansion presents that possibility as a variant for the game. It includes a new leader miniature and leader card for Philip V, based on Roberto Ullfig’s Philip V scenario, giving the Carthaginian player another way to represent Macedonian involvement.
- Desert March: Move an army of up to 5 CU between Zuccabar or Icosium and Gades, rolling for attrition before arrival.
- Hidden Cove: Move an army of up to 5 CU to or from Genua as if it were a port, unless an opposing card counters the move.
Desert March recalls Hamilcar’s successful overland journey from Carthage to Gades and allows a small army to follow his footsteps. Hidden Cove reflects Genua’s use in specific circumstances: Mago arrived there with reinforcements and later most probably evacuated through the same port.
With its new general and movement options, Sun of Macedon broadens the strategic possibilities of Hannibal & Hamilcar without losing focus on the conflict between Rome and Carthage.
