About this expansion
Hoogspanning: Het Verre Oosten is an exclusive Dutch expansion box for Power Grid for 2–6 players, with a playing time of about 120 minutes.
This box combines the officially released Power Grid: China/Korea and Power Grid: Russia & Japan maps. Together, they bring four different settings to the game, each with regional rules that affect the power-plant market, resource markets, or network development.
- Korea: The Korean board uses two separate resource markets, one for the North and one for the South.
- China: The Chinese board introduces planned-economy rules. During step 1 and step 2, power plants come out in ascending order.
- Japan: Players can start two separate networks. Because of Japan’s crowded geographical surroundings, the first connections are restricted to certain cities, creating a tough fight for the best networks.
- Russia: The power-plant market is restricted, while the standard rules for exchanging out-of-date power plants are changed.
These rules make each map play differently while expanding the core Power Grid experience. The separate markets in Korea, the planned power-plant order in China, Japan’s restricted opening connections, and Russia’s altered plant rules all require players to adapt to their region.
In Russia especially, the changed exchange rules force leading players to completely rethink their strategies. Whether you want to manage two networks in Japan or compete within Korea’s divided resource markets, Hoogspanning: Het Verre Oosten adds four distinctive challenges to Power Grid.
