About this expansion

Imaginarium: Chimera is an expansion for 2–6 players with an approximately 120-minute play time, released in 2020. It places dreams at the heart of the Imaginarium, giving every machine a dream—its own “soul.”

Once per turn, instead of performing one of the two actions you chose, you can spend that time dreaming. Persistent dreams can reward you with extra resources or victory points, and they may even allow the game to end earlier than normal.

Chimera also expands the content available during play with new projects and assistants. These additions build on the expansion’s focus on machines, dreams, and the choices you make with your available actions.

The expansion includes components for games with up to six players, but games at that player count use the new team play mode. In this mode, teammates share their resources, victory points, and broken machines.

  • Dreams for every machine: Explore each machine’s “soul” and pursue persistent dreams.
  • Dreaming as an alternative action: Replace one of your two chosen actions once per turn.
  • New content: Add projects and assistants to your game.
  • Team play for up to six: Share resources, victory points, and broken machines with a teammate.

Good communication is important in team play, where teammates can coordinate their choices and create combined actions. With its dream system and cooperative team format, Imaginarium: Chimera introduces new ways to use your turn and pursue the game’s rewards.
