About this expansion

PAX: Nocturnus is a 2012 expansion for PAX for 1–4 players, with a listed play time of 45 minutes. It adds three new types of cards that change the ways players can approach the conflict surrounding Rome.

With these additional cards, players gain more ways to beat Rome or help Rome withstand an assault from escaped slaves who threaten to rebel against the empire. The expansion broadens the available card options while keeping its focus on the struggle between rebellion and imperial resistance.

Adding PAX: Nocturnus also changes the length of play. With the new cards included, the game lasts until the deck runs out, so sessions take longer than they do without the expansion.

  • Three new types of cards for PAX
  • More ways to challenge Rome or support its defense
  • Play that lasts until the deck runs out
  • Support for solo play
  • Support for 5–8 players when combining two PAX games

The expansion can be used for solo play, making it suitable for a single player as well as group sessions. It can also be combined with two PAX games, allowing 5–8 players to compete at once.

PAX: Nocturnus is packaged with Pergamemnon: Antebellum, an expansion for the separate card game Pergamemnon. For players looking to extend PAX with additional card types, a longer deck-driven game, and expanded player-count options, this release offers several ways to revisit the conflict.
