About this board game
Embalming Girl is a quick card game for 3–6 players that takes about 10 minutes. In a world changed by a virus that makes infected people violent, students hiding in St. Lily’s Girls Academy must embalm a dead friend while searching for the murderer among them.
The girls have taken refuge in the old school building after a mob forced them to flee. With rescue uncertain and materials limited, they divide into groups and attempt to preserve the corpse. Each player becomes the leader of a team, giving instructions to its members—represented by the cards in hand. The final hand is the leader themselves.
On each turn, players play cards for one of several purposes. A card may contribute to the embalming task, place suspicion on another player, or activate its special action. The group must manage these choices carefully while clues point toward a murderer who may be hiding among the survivors.
The game ends when every player has only one card remaining. First, the players determine whether the embalming succeeded by checking whether the cards played for it reach the target number based on the number of players. They then compare their suspicion levels.
The player or players with the highest suspicion are arrested as suspects and cannot win. The remaining players check the victory conditions on their final hand card in the cards’ priority order. Anyone who meets those conditions wins, making the last card—and the decisions that lead to it—crucial.
With its compact play time and intertwined objectives, Embalming Girl combines task completion, suspicion, special actions, and a final search for the truth in a tense survival scenario.
