1822: Medium Regional Scenario

About this expansion

1822: Medium Regional Scenario is a reduced-map railway investment game for 3–7 players, with an expected play time of about 240 minutes.

Part of the 18xx series, it is based on 1822: Railways of Great Britain and explores the growth of railways through the age of steam. The map covers England, parts of Wales, and parts of Scotland, with less of the north and southwest than the full 1822 map.

Players take the role of investors in railway companies. They then operate those companies with the aim of maximising their own wealth, creating an 18xx experience on a more limited regional map.

The rules include three variants, each designed for a different style of play or level of experience:

• Starter: intended for players with no experience with 1822.
• Standard: designed for players seeking gameplay similar to the full 1822 game in a shorter duration.
• Advanced: a more volatile version, matching the variant previously published on the web when 1822 was released.

The private companies used depend on the selected variant. Starter uses P1–P14; Standard uses P1, P4–P16, and P18; Advanced uses P1–P12.

With its regional map and selectable formats, 1822: Medium Regional Scenario provides several ways to approach the 1822 system. The rules are available from the publisher’s site, and the game was released in 2018.
