About this board game

1888-N is a 2–6 player 18xx railway game set in China’s Beijing area, with an approximate playing time of 200 minutes. Released in 2022, it is the first entry in a Chinese trilogy that also includes 1888-E and 1888-S.

Players take the roles of investors in railroad companies. They spend their initial capital to purchase wholly owned private companies and shares in public companies, creating the financial foundation for their railway ambitions.

Each public company is controlled by its largest shareholder, who serves as its president. Public companies build track and operate trains to earn revenue. That revenue can be distributed as dividends to shareholders or retained by the company to support future track construction and rolling stock purchases.

As the opening game in the trilogy, 1888-N can be combined with 1888-E, 1888-S, or both. Combining these games creates a larger map and adds more companies, extending the setting beyond the standalone game.
