About this board game

2019: The ARCTIC is an economic strategy game for 2–4 players, with games lasting about 120 minutes. Players manage mineral resource companies exploring the Arctic and compete to maximize their scores through investment, political influence, and control of valuable deposits.

The path to success combines two complementary goals. Players can pursue an investment policy that provides a variety of resources, while also seeking control of large quantities of deposits of the same type to dominate particular segments of the raw materials industry.

Politics is the central tool for gaining an advantage. Players shape the internal and foreign policies of the Arctic powers, including Russia, Norway, the European Union, Canada, and the USA. China’s participation in the race for access to Arctic resources is also simulated.

Although the cover suggests a geopolitical confrontation, the main focus is the management and expansion of mineral resource companies. A military aspect is included, adding another dimension to the struggle for influence and access.

2019: The ARCTIC features strong negative interaction and no luck factor. Every decision is part of a direct contest: build a broad resource portfolio, concentrate on dominating specific materials, and use political action to shape the Arctic environment in your favor.
