About this board game
A to Z is a word-enumeration party game for 2–4 players, with a playing time of about 30 minutes. Race to cover every space on your personal alphabet board by naming words in changing categories before your opponents can finish theirs.
Each player has a plastic board with 25 spaces labeled A to Z, with X and Y sharing one space. On your turn, move the single pawn around the playing board. When you land, another player draws a card, checks your die roll, and reads the matching category aloud.
- 15 or 30: Name as many words in the category as possible within the indicated number of seconds, covering the corresponding letter spaces for each answer.
- Hand: Choose another player and use 15 seconds of answers to remove chips from their board, matching each word to its starting letter.
- 2: Cover two spaces on your own board for free, which can be especially useful for difficult letters such as Q, X, Y, and Z.
The goal is to be the first player to fill all 25 spaces. The timer is intentionally loud and flips over suddenly when time runs out, adding an extra distraction to the pressure of finding words quickly.
Simple to learn and quick to play, A to Z focuses on vocabulary, speed, and the frustration of a stalled mind. It was released in 1992. Although Tactic previously used the title Ord Mani for an earlier word game, that title refers to a different game, despite some similarities.
