About this expansion

Abyss: De Profundis is the third expansion for Abyss, supporting 2–4 players with a playing time of about 60 minutes. It introduces the 10 Outcasts, who have reached the gates of the Kingdom after being banished to the farthest reaches of the abyssal depths.

The Outcasts were stripped of their titles as Lords, but they evolved to survive in exile and prepare for their return. When you play with De Profundis, the base game rules remain unchanged while these new cards add fresh possibilities to recruitment and play.

Outcasts have their own deck alongside the Lords deck. They are recruited in the same way as Lords, but each brings different powers to the game. This keeps the core recruitment system familiar while adding another set of characters with their own effects.

  • 10 Outcasts cards
  • A separate Outcasts deck alongside the Lords deck
  • Different powers from those of the Lords
  • Two Outcasts who allow you to steal a Location from an opponent
  • One rulebook

The ability of two Outcasts to steal a Location from an opponent gives De Profundis a distinctive interaction with the Locations already in play. Their arrival adds a new element without changing the underlying rules of Abyss.

For players who want to expand their Abyss experience, Abyss: De Profundis brings the Outcasts into the Kingdom as an additional group to recruit. Their story of survival and return is matched by powers that broaden the choices available during the game.
