About this board game
Age of Gods is a 2004 board game for 3–5 players, with games lasting about 90 minutes. Players take the roles of ancient gods, each seeking to help chosen tribes prosper and conquer the land.
At the beginning of the game, no god knows all of the tribes connected to them. These chosen tribes are revealed only every other round, creating an evolving picture of each player’s interests as the game progresses.
The board begins with 24 different tribes placed on predefined spaces. Each tribe belongs to one of four levels, and its starting presence on the board reflects that level:
- Level 1 tribes begin with 1 counter.
- Level 2 tribes begin with 2 counters.
- Level 3 tribes begin with 3 counters.
- Level 4 tribes begin with 4 counters.
Battles between tribes form the biggest part of the game. The gods are not limited to using only their own tribes in these conflicts, however. Players can also make other tribes fight among themselves, opening up a wider range of ways to influence the struggle across the board.
This unusual combination of hidden affiliations, gradual revelation, and player-directed conflict gives Age of Gods its distinctive character. You may be responsible for helping particular tribes thrive, while also shaping battles involving tribes whose importance to other gods is still being uncovered.
With its changing information and broad freedom to direct tribal conflict, Age of Gods presents a game of ancient powers, competing peoples, and battles over the land.
