About this board game

Age of Wonders: Planetfall is a strategy board game for 2–6 players, with games lasting around 40 minutes. Across seven rounds, commanders explore the scattered remnants of the Star Union and compete to determine who is worthy of succeeding its lost power.

The Star Union collapsed after massive gravity bombs created spatial rifts to new worlds, cutting many planets off from the wider Empire. Now, surviving factions are rebuilding civilization and rediscovering the technology of the past. As one of six groups, you lead an expedition into these once-abandoned regions.

A new planet is explored in each round, and every player may conduct two explorations on that planet. These journeys offer opportunities to gain resources and technology, confront hostile units, claim landmarks, and carry out operations that advance your position.

• Earn Empire points through battles, technology, landmarks, and operations.
• Compete for additional points through conditions on the goal sheet.

Defeating units, studying technology, claiming landmarks, and running operations all contribute to your Empire points. The game’s changing planets provide a focused campaign of exploration as the factions search for valuable opportunities among the shards of the old Empire.

At the end of the seventh round, players score additional Empire points for meeting the conditions listed on the particular goal sheet. The player with the most Empire points wins, establishing their faction as the leading force in the Star Union’s next chapter.

With its post-collapse setting and structured seven-round journey, Age of Wonders: Planetfall combines exploration, competition, and the pursuit of a new world built from the remnants of a fallen civilization.
