About this board game
Ager Sanguinis is a historical battle game for 2–4 players, with an approximately 300-minute playing time, set in Northern Syria during the 12th century. It recreates the fierce conflict surrounding the battle lost by Roger of Antioch in 1119.
The game focuses on a civilization showdown between the descendants of the Normans who followed Bohemond of Tarento, founder of the principality of Antioch, and several regional factions. Players can field the Knights Hospitaller, Armenians, and Seljuk Turks in scenarios representing this turbulent period.
Ager Sanguinis uses the rules of the other games in the Norman Saga series while adding distinctive counters, including camels and naphta throwers. Three full-color tactical maps provide a range of terrains, while the full-color campaign map supports the game’s broader strategic setting.
- Three full-color tactical maps
- Four sheets of full-color counters, with increased thickness
- A full-color overlay sheet and campaign map
- A 40-page rule booklet
- A 36-page booklet with historical background, playing-piece guidance, and strategic and tactical scenarios
- Eight reference play sheets and one 10-sided die
The included historical material introduces the setting and the game’s pieces, while the scenario booklets provide both strategic and tactical options. This combination makes the game a substantial presentation of the Norman-era conflicts in and around Antioch.
Released in 2017, Ager Sanguinis is available in English or French, with both booklets and the play sheets provided in the selected language. An optional counter tray is also available through the Cry Havoc Fan shop.
