Ahau: Rulers of Yucatán is a Euro-style strategy board game for 1–5 players, with games lasting around 120 minutes. Set during the Classical Period of the Maya, it combines worker placement and resource management with an innovative dual-engine building system.

Players take on the roles of leaders of Maya city-states, each seeking to climb the ladder of power and become the most famous ruler of the era. Success comes through developing your city-state and making careful strategic decisions throughout your journey.

In Ahau, you can invoke the ancient Maya deities, make production flourish, build your pyramid temple and capital, and expand the borders of your territory. These interconnected goals create a rich setting for managing resources while building your path to power.

Beyond its strategic systems, the game is designed as a homage to the breathtaking Maya culture and aims to bring its history closer to players. Its cultural and historical aspects were closely checked by Mayanist David S. Anderson, professor of anthropology and archaeology and an instructor at Radford University in Virginia, U.S.

With support for solo play as well as groups of up to five, Ahau: Rulers of Yucatán offers a flexible way to explore its setting and mechanisms. The Solo Mode was co-designed with professional game designer David Digby, adding a dedicated option for players who want to lead a city-state on their own.
