About this expansion
Alhambra: Queenie 2 – Medina is a nine-tile mini-expansion for 2–6 players, designed for games lasting around 60 minutes. It adds a new scoring challenge to the building tiles already in play.
During setup, place all nine Medina tiles in the bag together with the rest of the building tiles. As the game progresses, players may build Medinas as part of their Alhambra.
At the end of each round, the Medina tiles are scored after all other buildings. Instead of awarding positive points, this expansion gives negative points to the player or players who have built the fewest Medinas.
- First round: the player with the fewest Medinas receives −3 points.
- Second round: the two players with the fewest receive −3 and −6 points.
- Third round: the three players with the fewest receive −3, −6, and −9 points.
Ties are resolved using the purchase price of the relevant Medina. The Medina with the higher purchase price wins the tie, meaning the player with the cheaper Medina receives the higher negative-point penalty.
Players who have not built any Medina tiles receive an additional penalty in every scoring round. This penalty equals the number of the round being scored: −1 in the first round, −2 in the second, and −3 in the third.
With its compact set of tiles and escalating penalties, Alhambra: Queenie 2 – Medina makes Medina construction an important consideration throughout the three scoring rounds. Released in 2014, it offers a focused addition to the Alhambra experience.
