About this board game

Alhambra: The Red Palace is a standalone game for 2–6 players, with play taking around 60 minutes. Set in the Alhambra Universe, it introduces a more complex style of gameplay while retaining the familiar goal of constructing your own Alhambra.

Players take money cards and use them to purchase buildings from the building market. The buildings are not printed on the tiles: instead, players draw a building tile and then a chip that determines which wooden building is placed on it. This separates the 3D wooden buildings from the walls and adds an extra layer to construction.

Each building tile may show guard icons on its walls. When you buy the tile, you place one guard on each icon. Guards standing on your longest wall provide bonus points during scoring, while discarded guards can be used for powerful extra actions during your turn.

  • Build your own Alhambra using money cards and wooden buildings.
  • Use the building market to decide which construction opportunities are available.
  • Place guards on wall icons and choose when to turn them into extra actions.
  • Compete for majorities in each building type and score for your longest connected wall segment.

There are three scoring rounds. Players receive points for having the most of each building type, as well as for their longest connected wall segment, with guards on that wall contributing bonus points.

The game ends when the building market can no longer be replenished from the building tile supply. After final scoring, the player with the highest score wins. Existing Alhambra expansions can be added to Red Palace; tile-based expansions require the Deluxe Edition when used with the Mega Box because it includes 50mm tiles instead of standard 45mm tiles.
