About this board game
Ambush Alley! A Game of Modern Urban Combat is a modern miniature wargame for 1–2 players, with games lasting about 60 minutes. Released in 2007, it recreates intense counter-insurgency actions and street fighting in urban environments.
The rules use a universal mechanic that is easy to grasp while supporting a high level of detail and rewarding sound tactical play. A dynamic turn sequence captures the turmoil of the modern city fight, while integrated fog of war keeps the action chaotic and unpredictable.
Players can explore the key elements of modern counter-insurgency and urban combat, including:
- Civilians on the battlefield
- Full vehicle rules
- Special assets and off-board support
- Night combat and UAVs
- IEDs and VBIEDs
- Building clearing
Ambush Alley includes five scenarios and sample organizational charts for US, British, and Australian forces. It supports any miniature scale from 15mm upward: 15mm scenarios use a 2’x2′ table, while 28mm games require only a 4’x4′ table.
The game is also designed to be accessible in terms of miniatures. Few scenarios need more than ten figures for the Regular force and around a dozen for the Insurgents. With complete solo-play rules, you can play even when a flesh-and-blood opponent is unavailable.
For groups seeking more modern-combat content, the game was expanded by supplements and scenario or mini-campaign products including Day of the Rangers, Motor Pool, The Three Block War, Operation: Darkstar, and Indian Country.
