About this board game

Among Nobles is a card game for 3–5 players, played in about 120 minutes, where each player builds a powerful family dynasty in feudal Europe.

Every dynasty begins with a married couple: the ancestral lord and his lady. New family members join through birth and marriage, while three generational changes see the oldest generation perish due to old age.

On a turn, a player activates one character or couple. Each activation allows a series of actions in a horizontal row on the character card. When a couple is activated, the wife’s actions are added to her husband’s, making marriages an important part of developing an efficient dynasty.

As the game progresses, increasingly powerful nobles enter play. Their abilities reflect their roles and help shape the direction of your family:

  • Red nobles are commanders with strong warfare actions.
  • Blue nobles are devout and excel at piety actions.
  • Yellow nobles are tradesmen who specialize in commerce actions.
  • Green nobles are negotiators with special abilities or intrigue actions.

Gold can purchase extra actions, pay for wedding feasts, muster armies, and fund the education and finer upbringing of male heirs. Armies wage war and bring riches and prestige back from distant provinces, while prestige measures your influence on society.

Most daughters are married into other families, but sons continue your family’s bloodline. In Among Nobles, the right—or wrong—marriages can determine whether your dynasty rises to prominence. After the final generational change, the player with the most prestige points wins.
