About this board game
Amygdala is an abstract strategy game for 2–4 players, with a play time of about 90 minutes, in which players compete for control of regions associated with different emotions.
Life is full of emotion, and the amygdala is the region of the brain primarily associated with processing these emotions. In the game, players collect and store emotional resources in their memory bank, then use those resources to unlock emotions from their mind.
Once unlocked, emotion tiles are placed on the main game board. The arrangement of these tiles matters: players can connect tiles featuring like emotions into networks that score points. Building these networks gives players a way to turn emotional resources into progress on the board.
- Collect and store emotional resources in your memory bank.
- Use those resources to unlock emotion tiles.
- Place emotion tiles on the main game board.
- Connect like emotions into networks to score points.
- Compete for control of different emotional regions.
Regional control provides another path to valuable points. The player with the most emotions in a region can score big points at the end of the game, but only if they have managed to unlock and place a claim tile belonging to the region they want to score.
This requirement makes timing and preparation central to Amygdala. Players must not only build their presence in a region, but also secure the appropriate claim tile before the final scoring opportunity. With its focus on emotional resources, connected tile networks, and regional competition, Amygdala offers a distinctive strategic contest for control of the mind.
