About this board game

An Empty Throne is a two-player card game that plays in about 40 minutes, challenging rivals to unite the lands under their own rule and secure the throne.

Designed to be quick-playing and accessible, the game centers on Kith cards, which players play, move, and exchange across three Fields and The Tombs. With a basic understanding of the card types, roles, and parts, players can use the Player Reference cards and prompts on the Field and Tomb cards to guide their decisions.

Each turn, a player selects two different Actions. They may play a card from their hand to their side of The Tombs or a Field, play a card from their hand to their side of a Field, or move one of their played cards to another Field or The Tombs and draw the top card of the deck they moved to.

• Acquire additional Kith cards and trigger abilities.
• Create coalitions and build combinations.
• Secure Fields by developing their Value.
• Use your two Actions to shape your growing claim.

When the game ends, players score 2 points for each of their flipped Fields and 1 point for every Field where they have at least 12 Value. Reaching at least 12 Value at The Tombs is worth 2 points, while each revealed Refuge Bonus Kith card in hand adds 1 point.
