About this board game

Anno Domini: Sport is a sports-history card game for 2–8 players, with games lasting around 30 minutes. It can be played on its own or combined with other sets in the Anno Domini series.

The set contains 340 cards, each featuring a historical sporting event. One side shows only the event description, while the other reveals the year—and sometimes the specific date—in which it happened.

At the beginning, each player receives nine cards, or fewer if a shorter game is preferred. Players may look only at the descriptions, then take turns adding cards to a shared timeline, trying to place each event in chronological order.

• Play a card where you think it belongs in the timeline.
• Challenge the order instead of adding a card if you believe it is wrong.
• Reveal the cards to check the actual years and dates.

If a challenge reveals that the timeline was correct, the doubting player receives two cards and skips a turn. If the order was incorrect, the previous player—the one who accepted the timeline—receives three cards. The first player to get rid of all their cards wins.

Exact knowledge is helpful, but bluffing and confidence matter just as much. Many events are obscure or difficult to date precisely, creating plenty of surprises and making Anno Domini: Sport a lively social game rather than a test reserved for history experts.

There is no English edition, but the game may help players improve their German skills—or provide a reason to start learning German. Combining this sports set with other Anno Domini sets offers the broadest way to play.
