About this board game
Arena Maximus is a fast-paced fantasy chariot racing game for 2–5 players, with games lasting around 60 minutes. Players pit their teams of charioteers against one another in a deadly contest for victory, glory, and immortality.
The race takes place on the most dangerous track ever devised. The arena is filled with traps, pitfalls, and other hazards, making every attempt to surge ahead a risky decision. Race too quickly and you increase the chance of crashing, but hold back for too long and your opponents may gain an advantage.
Victory goes to the first chariot to finish. Reaching the front, however, is only part of the challenge: surviving the track is just as important as finding the fastest route through it.
- Race against opponents on a hazardous fantasy track.
- Balance speed against the danger of crashing.
- Use an arsenal of spells to skirt dangers and return to the running.
- Compete for the Emperor’s laurels of victory and the mantle of immortality.
When a charioteer falls behind, magic can help close the gap. Spells offer a way to avoid some of the arena’s dangers and rejoin the contest, though there is only so much magic can do. Timing and momentum remain essential as the race hurtles toward its decisive finish.
With its combination of racing, hazards, crashes, and fantasy spells, Arena Maximus delivers a dramatic contest for the whole table. Every race offers the promise of triumph—or the threat of oblivion—as players wager everything on a single run through the arena.
