About this board game

Arkham Noir: Collector Case #2 – The King in Yellow is a solitaire card game for 1 player, designed for a 30-minute investigation into murder, suicide, and madness.

Set in New York City, you take the role of private investigator Howard Lovecraft. Hired to retrieve a copy of The King in Yellow stolen from an Arkham collector, you are drawn into a disturbing web surrounding a banned and unsettling play.

Inspired by Robert W. Chambers’ collection of stories, The King in Yellow, and Raymond Chandler’s short story of the same title, this case reimagines interconnected weird-fiction themes as a noir detective investigation. Each Arkham Noir case stands alone, offering its own challenge.

  • Add cards to open cases and create lines of investigation.
  • Work toward collecting five “puzzle” clue cards to piece together the larger picture.
  • Complete the investigation before running out of time or mental stability.
  • Choose an adjustable difficulty level to suit different players.

Every newly shuffled deck creates a unique challenge, so the investigation can unfold differently from one game to the next. The pressure comes from deciding how to develop your cases while pursuing the clues needed to reveal what is happening.

With its focused solo format, literary inspiration, and dark noir atmosphere, Arkham Noir: Collector Case #2 – The King in Yellow turns a search for a stolen book into a tense race against dwindling time and stability.
