About this board game
Artificium is a card-driven development game for 2–6 players that takes about 50 minutes, in which medieval rulers build crafts, develop efficient production chains, and help their cities thrive.
Across four turns, players use cards to produce resources, transform one resource type into another, earn victory points, and perform special actions. Careful planning is essential: the cards you play can connect into a productive chain that turns gathered resources into valuable refinements.
At the beginning of each turn, every player receives five cards, while six cards are displayed face-up as the card market. Before playing, players can exchange some cards from their hands with cards in the market, giving them an opportunity to improve their plans.
- Play and resolve cards step by step.
- Produce, trade, gather, and refine resources.
- Use action cards to affect the course of development.
- Plan card combinations that generate victory points.
Crystals on each player’s individual resource board track available resources, while crystals placed beside the board represent coins. This system keeps production, trading, and spending visible as your city develops and your plans unfold.
After the fourth turn, players sell any remaining resources for additional victory points, receiving one point for every four coins. The player with the most victory points becomes the wisest medieval ruler. In Artificium, thoughtful card selection and well-timed resource transformations are the keys to success.
