Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer – Vedah, Sage of Swords Promo is a promotional card for 2–4 players, released in 2010. It was given to participants in the first Ascension Game Day on December 4, 2010.

Vedah, Sage of Swords is an Enlightened Hero with a cost of 7 Runes and a reward of 4 Honor. Its ability focuses on the center deck: reveal the top card, then choose to draw or defeat that card.

When playing Vedah results in drawing an Event from the Portal Deck, the Event does not enter play. Instead, it is banished, and another card is drawn from the Portal Deck. If that card is also an Event, the same process is repeated.

An erratum applies when Dhartha’s Retreat is in play. In this specific situation, the card “drawn” from the Portal Deck is considered an acquired card, so the effect provided by Dhartha’s Retreat is cancelled.

This is the only instance where “draw” is synonymous with “acquire.” A second printing of Vedah, Sage of Swords was planned to address this wording. As a compact promotional addition, the card combines a clear choice with a distinctive rule interaction involving Events and the Portal Deck.
