About this board game

Atlantic Wall: D-Day to Falaise is a grand-tactical simulation of the Normandy campaign for 2–6 players, with a listed play time of 14,400 minutes.

Set against the Allied invasion of northern France, the game represents almost every formation involved at company and battalion level. Its researched orders of battle depict the armies of both sides, while the map includes primary and secondary roads, trails, villages, towns, cities, and the difficult Bocage terrain.

Units cover a broad range of formations and battlefield roles, including infantry, armor, anti-tank, reconnaissance, engineers, assault guns, artillery, parachute troops, rangers, commandos, gliders, and headquarters. German defenses are further represented by Widerstandnesten, Cherbourg’s fortifications, and other bastions across the campaign area.

  • Three introductory one-map scenarios use an abbreviated rules set.
  • Three larger multi-map scenarios cover shorter periods or alternate campaign starting points.
  • An Airborne Assault Module and an Amphibious Assault Module recreate the opening stages of 6 June.
  • The Amphibious Assault Module uses a special Beach Display and can be played solitaire.

The full campaign runs from 6 June to 22 August across 234 game turns. The Beach Display presents invasion sub-areas with units shown at company level, while exclusive rules handle airborne and amphibious landings and the logistical system needed to support the armies coming ashore.

As the third installment in the Grand Operational Simulation Series, Atlantic Wall shares a revised and updated rules foundation with Wacht am Rhein and Hurtgen: Hell’s Forest. The result is a large-scale depiction of D-Day and the campaign through Falaise, with introductory scenarios and extensive campaign options.
