About this board game
Attangle is a two-player stacking game played in about 45 minutes on a 37-cell hexagonal board. Released in 2006, it uses two sets of 18 stackable pieces and challenges players to trap and capture opposing pieces.
Players place their pieces on empty cells, looking for opportunities to surround an opponent’s piece with pieces of their own. The attacking pieces can target the trapped piece from different angles, creating a range of possible capture positions across the board.
To capture, the attacking pieces move simultaneously in a straight line over any number of empty cells before landing on the trapped piece. This forms a stack, but no stack may grow larger than three pieces.
- Players: 2
- Playing time: about 45 minutes
- Board: 37-cell hexagonal board
- Pieces: 2 × 18 stackable pieces
- Victory: gain the third triple stack
The winner of Attangle is the player who gains the third triple stack. Its focused board, simultaneous captures, and strict stack limit keep the central objective clear while giving the attacking pieces multiple angles from which to approach.
Attangle was designed by Dieter Stein as one of three games in his stacking trilogy, alongside Abande and Accasta. It can also be played using an Abande set. The preferred rules were slightly reworked by the author in 2008, while the original rules are classified as a variant.
